Charlotte A. Fontaine, 86, died Friday morning, January 2, 2026 at Brooksby Village in Peabody following a period of declining health. She was the widow of Raymond W. Fontaine Jr., with whom she shared 55 years of marriage.
Born in Salem, MA on January 17, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Charlotte Fennessey. She was raised and educated in Massachusetts, graduating from St. Chretienne’s Academy and from the Boston College School of Nursing.
She worked as a Registered Nurse in numerous locations across the U.S. as she moved with her husband Raymond, a career Army Officer. She finished her career at the former Union Hospital in Lynn, MA, where she worked for 21 years.
A resident of Danvers for 32 years and Peabody for the last 14 years, she was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother who always made sure to reach out and include anyone she thought needed a friend or just some company at the time. Making sure no one was left out was very important to her.
Charlotte leaves her children, Edward Fontaine and his wife Trish of Cohasset, Peter Fontaine and his wife Amy of Cincinnati, and Susan Givens and her partner Susan of Middleton, and five grandchildren, Joshua Givens and Erin, Andrew, Jake, & Lorelei Fontaine, and a sister, Maryellen Fennessey.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on February 14, 2026 at 10:30am at St. Richard’s Church, 90 Forest St, Danvers, MA. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Charlotte’s name may be made to Plummer Youth Promise, 37 Winter Island Road, Salem, MA 01970. Arrangements are by C.R.
