Christine (Gibney) Hashem, 89, died Sunday morning, March 31, 2013 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Charles Hashem, with whom she shared more than fifty years of marriage. Born in Salem on Jan. 3, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Christine Gibney. She was raised and educated in Salem and Peabody and attended Peabody High School. She enjoyed knitting and for several years was an assistant Girl Scout leader. A beloved “Gram” to many people, she adored her two puppies, Olivia and Elliot. She was cared for in the end by her granddaughter’s dear friends, Kim, Deneige, and Emma. She is survived by a daughter, Paula Ferris, and a granddaughter, Molly Ferris, both of Danvers, and a special little friend, Abby. She was predeceased by her son, Charles “Jimmy” Hashem, and her brothers William, George, Warren, and Alfred Jr. As requested, funeral services are private and there are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kaplan Family Hospice House, 78 Liberty St., Danvers, MA 01923.
