Clifford "Babe" Demsey

— Clifford E. “Babe” Demsey, 89, died Saturday, July 13, 2013. He was the husband of the late Marjorie (Longo) Demsey. Born in Danvers on Jan. 21, 1924, he was the son of the late Charles and Alice (Cowan) Demsey. He was raised and educated in Danvers and was a graduate of Holten High School, Class of 1942. He then served honorably in the U.S. Navy during WWII. For thirty-five years, Babe was employed as a service technician with the former Elliott Fuel in Danvers. He and his wife retired to Glen, NH, and he returned to Danvers in 1997. A 1992 inductee into the Danvers Blue & White Club Hall of Fame for football and baseball, he also played in the Twi League for many years. He is survived by two children, Scott Demsey of Center Conway, NH and Cindi Sandman and her husband Mark of Bartlett, NH, three grandchildren, Kori and Casey Sandman and Alexa Demsey, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Wendy Demsey, and his brothers Carle, Harvey, Roland, and Melvin Demsey. His Graveside Service will be Friday, July 19, 2013 at 10AM in Pine Grove Cemetery, Haverhill St., Topsfield. Relatives and friends are invited. As requested, there are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to United Cerebral Palsy, 71 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
