Daniel "Danny" "Danny-boy" Kane
September 16, 1936 ~ October 30, 2023
Daniel ‘Danny” "Danny-boy" Kane— 87 years of age Korean War Veteran (non-combat) USAF Retired. Lufthansa German Airlines, Cargo Salesman Retired.
Danny was born in Brooklyn, New York at the tail end of the Great Depression and raised in Woodside, Queens. He was the only son of Florence “Nancy” (Schelling) and Daniel Kane. He was the beloved younger brother to Florence “Sissy” Dowd. Tragedy struck early when at only a few months old, his father died, leaving his mother a young widow. Her sister Martha and her husband Joseph De’Angelo became an extra set of parents, even after his mother married William White. From that union, his longest best friend and brother, William “Billy/Cookie Billy” White Jr. was born. He is preceded in death by Winifred Kane, his wife of 54 years. He is survived by his sister Florence, brother Bill, daughter Bronwyn, daughter Deirdre, son-in-law Steven and his three grandchildren, Eilis Brenda Thomas (20), Sinead Winifred Thomas (19) and Deaglan Daniel Thomas (13) and many family members and friends.
Danny was young when he joined the United States Air Force. He was a Korean War Veteran (non-combat) and was stationed for a long time in Limestone, Maine and then transferred to Japan which he loved. His time in Japan prompted him to seek a career in the aviation industry so he could continue traveling abroad. He enrolled in a typing course because he “was the only guy in an overwhelmingly female class” and he did so enjoy being the center of attention. Danny’s ability to type 40 WPM would change his life forever because it got him hired by Lufthansa German Airlines in New York. Eventually, he was promoted and transferred to Logan Airport in Boston, putting him in the right place, at the right time. Danny met the beautiful young “Dub” from Ireland named Winnie Devlin at Logan and their fate was sealed. They were married in May of 1966 and together they owned homes in Peabody and Boxford MA, before retiring and then moving south to Homosassa FL. Danny and Winnie loved their daughters and loved to travel. The Kane Family shared many adventures traveling across the United States, Ireland, and western Europe and we will treasure the memories.
Danny Kane was a tall, brash New Yorker, who was quick to laugh and quick to fight, but was an old softie who would weep watching a movie or listening to his beloved music. He was the life of the party, and everyone loved to sit near Dan so they could enjoy his quick wit or hear him tell one of his legendary stories - they were so outrageous and funny. Not a shy man, he loved to sing at the top of his lungs and was the first one on the dance floor busting a move. Danny Kane was a sales rep by trade and could charm the bees, but he was irreverent. He famously carried a business card that was created when Dan wrote “Kiss My Irish A$$“on his card, followed by ten of his international coworkers who each transcribed it in their language. Dan had the card laminated. In our Christmas tradition, Dan always sang “Five Golden Rings” from “The Twelve Days of Christmas” - as a solo, standing up, arms outstretched with jazz hands - just belting it out! As a Grandpop, he made it his priority to be at kindergarten graduations, soccer games and school events.
Rest in Peace Danny Kane - you are very loved.
