DANVERS- David L. Collins, 80, passed away on February 28, 2024 in Twin Oaks Nursing Home following a brief illness. Born in Hyannis on February 5, 1944, he was the son of the late Earle and Lillian Collins. He was born two months prematurely and weighed only a pound and a half. He was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, mental impairment and several other complications but David had a tenacity for survival. He would thrive and was able to participate in many activities. David loved to play baseball in the Babe Ruth League. He was also a tremendous trumpet player, he sang in the church choir, as well as being a rock and roll aficionado. David was employed at Shaw’s in Peabody before retiring in 2003. He was a Mason with the Amity Lodge in Danvers for the past thirty years. He is survived by his brother and best friend, Richard Collins, his sister Amy Leck and nephew Kenneth Collins of Georgetown, his niece and nephews, Steven and Karen Wilkinson of CO, Carole Hopkins of TX, Thomas Hopkins of ME and great nephews Robert and Morgan Wilkinson of CO. His funeral service will be held at 11AM on Friday, March 8, 2024 at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. Visitation will be held prior to his service from 10-11AM in the funeral home Friday morning. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Danvers.   1. I didn’t know David but I did know of what he was born with as well as My own special needs adult child! You see God wanted another flower to addr to his magnificent garden, so he had chosen David, I firmly believe that the day that David was born, he had the most beautiful Angel to watch & guide David throughout David’s life! I’m so truly sorry for your loss! God Bless!
