Diane R. McDermott
August 17, 1947 ~ January 19, 2023
Diane R. (Gould) McDermott, 75, a lifelong Danvers resident, died Thursday, January 19, 2023 at the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington. She was the beloved wife of Mark J. McDermott, with whom she shared fifty-three years of marriage.
Born in Peabody on August 17, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Ruth (Cammon) Gould. She was raised and educated in Danvers and was a 1965 graduate of Danvers High School. She furthered her studies at the Chandler School for Women.
Prior to starting a family, Diane worked as a clerk in the Danvers Tax Collector’s office.
Diane was an avid reader who could often be found crocheting or working with ceramics. She and her husband enjoyed travel and had taken several cruises. In recent years, spending time with her grandchildren is what she cherished most—she loved making homemade custard for them and taking them for ice cream in the summer.
In addition to her husband, she leaves her son, Patrick McDermott and his wife Elmida Ramirez of Danvers, two grandchildren, Hansen and Hannah Ramirez, a sister, Lois Legro of Goffstown, NH, a brother-in-law, Henry McDermott, and several nieces and nephews.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at 10:30AM in Saint Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Tuesday from 4-7PM in C.R. Lyons & Sons Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. Diane and I have been friends for over 40 years. We met when we adopted our sons, Greg and Patrick from El Salvador. After the kids grew up, we spent many memorable times together, traveling to the San Diego Zoo, The Bridge of Flowers, and attending plays and concerts. I called her my social director, she was always coming up with fun ideas. Whenever possible, we would meet for lunch, usually at IHop, and discuss our families. She would always talk about Elme, her beloved daughter-in-law, and about her grandchildren, Hansen and Hannah, the joys of her life. I will really miss my good friend.
To Mark, Patrick, and family:
