Dolores F. Brown
March 9, 1931 ~ June 30, 2023
Dolores F. (LeClair) Brown, 92, recently passed away at the Kaplan Family Hospice House following a long illness. She was deeply loved by her family & friends, and she filled our lives with much love and many happy memories.
Dolores grew up in Salem MA, before moving to Beverly. Following high school, she worked in Boston as a dental assistant. It was on the commuter train where she met the love of her life, Norman Brown. They married in June of 1953, and by 1955 welcomed their daughter Maureen into the world. Dolores put aside her career to raise their family and several years later adopted their son Tom. As her family matured, Dolores returned to work as an Office Manager for Dr. Rooney & Dr. Goldberg in Danvers, then Dr. Nicholas Senzamici Pediatric Dentistry of the North Shore. She completed her career as a Massachusetts Ombudsman, where she was recognized as Ombudsman of the year in her first year.
Throughout their 63-year marriage, Dolores and Norm enjoyed spending time with family & friends. They also enjoyed travel, experiencing western Europe, and much of the beauty of Canada, and the US. Dolores’ favorite trips were California Wine Country, and Sedona, AZ. When at home, she enjoyed reading, gardening, hosting close friends for dinner, and creating incredible meals for family events…she had a true gift for the culinary arts. She created many special moments with her grandchildren and great grandchildren wearing her title of Nana with total pride. Her kindness extended beyond genetics, and those she welcomed into her heart always felt she loved them like their mother, aunt, sister, or cousin. Dolores made sure no one went without, whether it was a kind word at the right moment, a care package that arrived out of the blue, or a box of gifts for the little ones at the holidays. We can think of no better example of love than that created by Dolores…truly amazing in every way.
Dolores is predeceased by her mother Jeannette (Cormier) Richards and brother Henry LeClair; her husband Norman Brown; her brother-in-law George Brown; her sister-in-law Elinor (Sullivan) Brown; and her brother-in-law Myron York. She leaves behind her sister-in-law Norma (Brown) York; her daughter Maureen (Brown) Gillis and son-in-law Jack Gillis; her granddaughter Amy (Gillis) Emery and her husband Steve Emery; her great granddaughters Caitlin and Molly Emery; her son Tom Brown, and his wife Lisa (Cronin) Brown; and her granddaughters Olivia and Vanessa Brown. She also leaves behind many extended family members and close friends.
Her funeral service will be held on Friday, July 21, 2023 at 10AM in C.R. Lyons & Sons Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. Burial will follow in Wenham Cemetery. Visiting hours are Thursday, July 20, 2023 from 4-7PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dolores’ memory may be made to the Danvers People-to-People Food Pantry, P.O.
