Dorothy E. Daly

November 22, 1930 ~ September 9, 2018
Dorothy E. (Lovell) Daly, 87, died Sunday evening, September 9, 2018, just four days after the death of her loving and devoted husband of seventy years, John P. Daly.
Born in Lynn on November 22, 1930, Dot was the daughter of the late Harold and Marion (Beck) Lovell. She was raised and educated in Lynn and graduated from Lynn English High School, Class of 1948. She would later go on to earn an associate’s degree from Essex Aggie in floriculture.
Dot was a loving, devoted mother to her 5 children. While raising her children, she discovered a lifelong passion as a popular Weight Watcher’s leader for many years. Committed to a healthy lifestyle, she developed and ran a weight loss program at Lynn Hospital, helping hundreds, if not thousands, of people improve their health by losing weight and improving fitness.
After completing her program at Essex Aggie, Dot began her career as a floral designer, operating a flower and crafts store in Lynn, and selling her own beautiful designs through the northeast for many years. She was always an avid, talented gardener, and could make anything grow by touching it.
After they retired, Dot and John relocated to Woodstock, GA for twenty-three years before returning to the North Shore in 2017. Fitness, health, and nutrition were always important to her. While residing in Georgia, Dot created her own exercise program targeted specifically towards baby boomers. She helped people become fit throughout the Metro Atlanta area for 17 years by teaching her Flex and Stretch classes and marketing her own DVD program. She also was a certified Silver Sneakers Instructor through the Arthritis Foundation. John and Dot were active members of the Uuman Universalist Unitarian Church in Roswell, GA.
Dorothy leaves her children, Mary Lou Gagnon and her husband Henry of Danvers, Jack Daly of Nashua, NH, and Celia McDermott and her husband Andrew of Roswell, GA, nine grandchildren, Jessica Gill, Christopher, Meghan, and Patrick Daly, Gregory and Kristen Gagnon, and James, Brittaney, and Michael McDermott, and nine great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Gwendolyn, and Houston Daly and MacKenzie, Mikaela, Zander, Maddox, Burkely, and Brody Gill. She was the mother of the late Diane Bordoy-Daly and Jill George and the sister of the late Harold, Robert, & Joseph Lovell.
Funeral Services for both Dorothy and John will be Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 11AM in C.R. Lyons & Sons Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Relatives and friends are invited. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 10AM. In lieu of flowers, donations in the name of Dorothy and John may be made to Care Dimensions online at www.caredimensions.org or by mail at Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St. Suite B-102, Danvers, MA. 01923.
My mother was one of the strongest, most determined people that I’ve ever known. She was a lifelong learner, and lived her life with intense passion, whether it was her garden, nutrition, exercise, knitting her her Irish cable sweaters, quilting… everything that she did, she did well. Determined even to the end to join her John… powerful testimony of her determination and love for him.
My beloved Aunt, memories of your caring ways abound with fits of laughter , and the kind sharing of encouraging words. Brief moments in a lifetime made profound by your being you. Benjamin
