Dorothy P. Jones
June 9, 2012
Dorothy P. (Henderson) Jones, a recent resident of Putnam Farm, Danvers, died June 9, 2012. She was the wife of Odis L. Jones, with whom she shared sixty-four years of marriage, many of them spent in travel as a Navy wife. Born in Boston on Dec. 6, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Ruth Henderson. She was raised and educated in Portsmouth, NH. Upon Odis’ honorable discharge from the submarine service, Dorothy and Odis settled in Chittenango, NY, with winters spent in Zephyr Hills, FL. Dorothy and Odis then lived briefly in Salem before moving recently together to Putnam Farm. She was a member of Eastern Star, and a Girl Scout Leader. Dorothy loved music and dancing, and had a wonderful sense of humor. Throughout her life she enjoyed traveling, and her skills at packing a house for moving in just days became family legend. Dorothy was a kind and sincere woman who was always willing to offer support in a loving way to all. In addition to her husband, Dorothy is also survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Raymond Muse of Salem, MA, and Deborah and Ralph Collis of Fayetteville, NY. She was the loving grandmother of Robert and his wife Colleen Muse of Milton, MA, and William and his wife Rachel of Bradford, MA, and she was the great-grandmother of Molly and Liam Muse. She also leaves a brother, Arthur Henderson of Greenland, NH, and three sisters, Sybil Laird, Nancy Satterlee, and Sandy Russo of Ionia, MI. The family wishes to thank the staff of Putnam Farm at Danvers for the outstanding care and concern given to Dorothy and her family. Her Funeral Service will be Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at 4PM in C.R. Lyons & Son, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. Relatives and friends are invited. Visitation will precede the service from 3-3:45PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dorothy’s memory to Putnam Farm at Danvers, 9 Summer Street, Danvers, 01923 or to Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm Street, Danvers, MA 01923.
My sincere condolences to your family. She will be with all of you in your hearts. Peace, Love and Light, Linda
Odie, Deb, Bonnie, and Family, Words cannot express the sadness I feel over the loss of my close friend and second mother “Dorothy Pearl”. She greatly influenced my life. She was there for me when I needed her most, as a young teen; that was 45 years ago. I have wonderful memories of our time together. From learning to swim to learning to drive – she was my teacher. She was a crazy driver – but, I’m not! 🙂 Escaping to her home where Dottie was fun loving and Odie was always cooking was comforting. She was stylish and fun to go shopping with. Loved how she curled her hair with that one side roller! I will be thinking of you as you celebrate your Mom’s life. Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Hugs to you. I love you.
Dear Odie, Kathy and I are deeply sorry for your loss. Please extend our condolences to the rest of your family, also. Dottie is such a sweet and wonderful person — and will always be in our memories. The BOTH of you are great people. We miss you dearly as neighbors, and although your former house is now re-occupied, things will never be the same. The new (young)owners have made few changes with a new deck and a wooden-fenced back yard (for their 2 dogs). They do keep their property appearance well, which I am glad, out of respect for you and Dottie. Kathy is doing well and will retire (finally) next year. Just had my second back/spine surgery and am slowly recovering and trying to retain my good spirit. Kathy does most of the bull-work because of my R/A and Lupus problems. Hope you and the family remain healthy for many years to come. Sure would like to hear from you sometime by mail, phone or e-mail. May God Bless! Kathy & Bob Hicks
Dear Odis and family, I am so saddened to hear of the passing of Dottie. My Mom and Dad and our family had so much fun with you through the years in Chittenango down on Dyke Road or on Kinderhook. Shopping trips to the Yellow Daisy with Mom and Dottie were always a hoot! I will always remember her great voice and accent , the way she kidded and joked and always seemed happy and the love she showed for you Odis. Please take care and know the Lenzen Family is thinking of you and sending much love to all.
