Edward McGrath

Ed passed away peacefully at Brooksby Village in Peabody, MA, surrounded by loved ones. He now is reunited with his beloved wife Bettie of 66 years who predeceased him. Bettie and Ed raised their family in Short Hills, NJ while spending summers on the shore in Bay Head, NJ. They moved to Peabody in 2007. Ed had a life filled with adventures, laughs and many, many stories. He loved finding opportunities in business and in life. As a partner in a surplus electronics business he was the master of deal making. Ed loved everyone and there was no one he wouldn’t talk to. Friends and family were the real wealth in his life. He leaves his daughter Linda McDavitt and her husband Steve of Ipswich, MA and his son Edward McGrath, Jr. and his wife Virginia of Point Pleasant, NJ. Grandchildren include Heather Fontaine and her husband Randy of Georgetown, MA, Tucker McGrath and his wife Courtney of Arlington, VA and Ted McGrath of San Diego, CA. For all of us that knew him and loved him- Thanks for the memories! Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life at the Stone Soup Café, 144 High St. in Ipswich MA on Feb. 16, 2013 from 1PM-5PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA, 01923.

  1. Ed & Bettie were the best next door neighbors and friends that anyone could wish for. God bless them both! When my folks were out of town, Ed used to sneak into our basement during late night parties and order my Dad’s best scotch to the delight of everyone, especially my Dad when he’d hear about it later……

  2. I have known Ed (Uncle Ed) since I was a little boy. He had for a lifetime been one of those people who puts a smile on your face just to see him. As I grew older, somehow he became younger. Helga & I have had many a good laugh with Ed & Betty and of course I find myself now repeating those same jokes (you know!) Keep the Lord laughing, Ed! I will miss him forever. Gary Couch
