Eleanor B. Twiss, 92, of Middleton, died Friday morning, July 25, 2014. She was the wife of the late Frank R. Twiss. Born in Danvers in the year 1921, she was the daughter of the late William and Bernice (Rushworth) Hoelzel and was a graduate of the Essex Agricultural School. Prior to her retirement, she was employed at the former Essex County Sanatorium for 15 years and also at the Danvers State Hospital for 18 years. Mrs. Twiss, who enjoyed spending time with family and playing Bingo, was devoted to her grandchildren. She was the senior member of the Middleton Congregational Church. She leaves her children, James Monroe and his wife Karleen of Hampstead, NH, Bernice Casey and her husband Robert of Middleton, and Frank Twiss and his wife Ilene of Middleton, 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, her nephew, William Hayward, and her niece, Barbara Morgan. She was predeceased by her sisters, Muriel Hayward and Barbara Hoelzel. Her Funeral Service will be Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at 10AM in the Middleton Congregational Church, 66 Maple St., Middleton. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery, Middleton. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Monday from 4-8PM in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Middleton Congregational Church, P.O. Box 398, Middleton, MA 01949.

  1. Ma took care of my grandmother at the Middleton colony back in the sixties. When i start hanging around with Frank it was my second home. I spent many good times with Ma Twiss, Bunny, Bob Casey, Frank and the girls We share lot’s of laughs at the old homestead on South Main Street. We use to take Ma Twiss and my mom Louise out to the Depot restaurant for their birthdays I Still remember going with Frankie up to Maine when ma had her episode up at Cliffton and Barbies up in Cundy Harbor that was a scary time but she came out of it fine. She was quite a lady take care of others for a good long time and will be missed by many people she touched in life. God love ya Ma till we meet again love Rick Gould and Family.

  2. Ma Twiss wore the flowers meant for my mother at my wedding on July 4th 1987. She was always, Ma Twiss..
