Elizabeth Joy (Kapnis) Sochat, 86, died Tuesday morning, March 26, 2013, at the Bear Hill Nursing Home in Stoneham following a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late David Sochat, with whom she shared nearly 40 years of marriage. Born in Salem on Sept. 4, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Evangelous and Jane (Jones) Kapnis. She was raised and educated in Salem and had been a longtime Danvers resident. Prior to her marriage, she was employed for several years at the former Pequot Mills in Salem. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by two children, Herbert Sochat of Danvers and Abbe Sochat and her fiancé Robert DeFlumeri of Stoneham, four grandchildren, David, Amanda, Matthew, and Michelle Sochat, two great-grandchildren, Christian and Alexandra, a brother John Kapnis and his wife Ruth of Salem, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings Helen DeCoff, Dennis, Spiro, and Frederick. Her Funeral Service will be Friday, March 29, 2013, at 10 AM in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Thursday from 5-8 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
