Esther C. (Grimes) (Hicks) O’Brien, 78, died Tuesday, September 21, 2010 following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Michael F. O’Brien. Born in Salem on Jan. 5, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Esther (Roundy) Grimes. She was raised and educated in Danvers and was a graduate of Holten High School, Class of 1950. A longtime Danvers resident, Mrs. O’Brien lived in Hamilton and Essex for several years and had lived in Beverly for the last 10 years. Mrs. O’Brien had been employed at General Electric and Ametek in Wilmington for several years. She was a member of Local 201 I.U.E. and at one time had been involved with the Celtic Dancers of Rowley. She is survived by three daughters, Belinda Hicks of Florida, Regina Hicks Coltin of New Hampshire, and Rebecca Hicks Grabowski of New Hampshire, a son, Matthew Hicks of Oregon, a sister, Martha Hubbard O’Neil of Danvers, 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Clyde E. “Chuck” Hicks, Jr., and two brothers, Lawrence Hubbard and Warren Grimes. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010 at 9AM in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. Visiting hours are Friday from 4-8PM in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923 or the Ronald McDonald House, 250 Brackett St Portland, ME 04102.
