SALEM- Evangeline (Spaneas) Hemmingsen
On November 12th, Evangeline (Spaneas) Hemmingsen entered her eternal rest at home surrounded by her loved ones. Born in Peabody on June 27, 1935, she was raised and educated in Danvers where she lived for many years.
She took great pride in her large close knit Greek family. Evangeline had the ability to extend the warmest of welcomes making friends quickly feel like family. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining, and always felt the more people around a table the merrier. She had a contagious smile, quick wit, and an ability to make all of us laugh. She will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her sister Florence Haley and her husband Bob, her daughter Diane McNulty, son Stephen Georgaklis, 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is greeted in heaven by those who have passed away previously; her parents Charles and Cynthia (Kalopotharakos) Spaneas, her husband Roy Hemmingsen, son Charles Georgaklis, daughter Christine Georgaklis, and siblings Peter and Gregory Spaneas, Marsha Haskell, Rose Tsatsios and Stella Drougas.
Her Funeral will be held at 10AM on Monday, November 21, 2022, in Saint Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 5 Paleologos St., Peabody. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Danvers. Visitation will be held from 3-6PM on Sunday, November 20, 2022, at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Evangeline’s name to Saint Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 5 Paleologos St, Peabody, MA, 01960.
