George A. Butler, Jr., 84, passed away in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on September 18, 2011. He was the husband of the late Beatrice Amor. Born in Pittsfield on Nov. 22, 1926, he was the son of the late George and Ruth (Norton) Butler. He was raised and educated in Pittsfield. George served in the Pacific aboard the USS Alaska during WWII with the United States Navy and was honorably discharged. He resided in Topsfield for much of his life, where he and his wife raised their six children. He was employed for over 35 years with Salem Hospital as a registered nurse. He is survived by his sister Eleanor Gardner of Pittsfield, his six children: Linda of Myrtle Beach, SC, David and his wife Cyndi also of Myrtle Beach, SC, Diane and husband Ken Roberts from Amesbury, Rick and his wife Debbie of Kingston, NH, daughter Gayle Silva of Gloucester, Kevin from Bristol VT. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews A Funeral service will be celebrated on Friday, Sept. 23, 2011 at 11AM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. Vst. hrs are Thurs. from 4-7PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donation may be made in George’s name to the Veterans of Foreign Wars at www.vfw.org.
