George J. Agganis, 92, passed away on December 9, 2024 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House.
Born in Providence, RI, on June 24, 1932, he was the son of the late Demosthenes and Carmella (Cogliano) Agganis. George was raised in Lynn and graduated from Lynn Classical High School in 1950. He served our country with the United States Air Force during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. George was a key member of the basketball team at Salem State College, where he earned his master’s degree. He taught accounting and shorthand at Fischer College for several years before embarking upon his long career as a Legislative Aide to the Speaker of the House of Representatives for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
George will be deeply missed by his loved ones and friends. Those who knew him will always treasure the memories of his kind, cheerful and humorous nature. He loved spending time with his family, whether that was a trip to the track with his brother or a lively game of whist with his sister. He also had a special bond with his “Honey Dew gang,” and enjoyed countless hours playing poker with friends. A self-taught computer programmer, George had a passion for tinkering with computers and collecting odd gadgets. One of his most endearing quirks was always having a cookie in his pocket for the family dogs.
He is survived by his sisters, Phyllis Budgell and Linda LeNeave and her husband, Sam Sr., his sister-in-law, Patricia Agganis, his nieces and nephews, Ron and Michael Hennessey, Diane Langlais, Linda Yost, Laurie Soucy, Maureen Agganis, Christine Sweeney, Gregg and Scott Budgell, Sam, Stuart, Michael and Suzanne LeNeave, and Jennifer Meier, and many great- and great-grand nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by his brother, Demo Agganis, his brother-in-law, Rodger Budgell and nieces, Stephanie and Jennifer Budgell.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the compassionate staff at Kaplan for their exceptional care and support.
His Funeral Service will be held at 11AM on Friday, Dec. 13, 2024 at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. Visitation will be held from 10-11AM in the funeral home prior to the funeral service. Burial will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn.
