Gertrude Darsney

Gertrude V. (McGrath) Darsney, 96, died Monday, Dec. 23, 2013 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House. She was the wife of the late Warren Darsney. Born in Lynn on Aug. 25, 1917, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Collins) McGrath. Raised and educated in Lynn, she was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School, Class of 1935, and continued her studies at Salem State College and Burdett College. As a young woman during WWII, Mrs. Darsney was employed at the GE Riverworks plant in Lynn. For many years until her retirement, she was the bookkeeper at the former Cedar Glen Nursing Home in Danvers. She was an avid reader. She is survived by a daughter, Maura Darsney of Danvers, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Lawrence Darsney, and her siblings John and Francis McGrath and Louise Millea. As requested, all services are private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catholic Charities North, 280 Washington St., Salem, MA 01970.
