Gordon "Bumpy" Eaton

Gordon K. “Bumpy” Eaton, 85, passed away in Salem Hospital on Oct. 13, 2010. Bumpy was a retired Deputy Chief for the Beverly Fire Department. Born on Nov. 13, 1924 in Danvers, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Estella (Bullerwell) Eaton. He was raised and educated in Danvers. Mr. Eaton served his country with the U.S. Navy during WWII as a Corpsman with the Marines in the Pacific Theater and in China. He also owned the former Our Market in North Beverly before becoming a firefighter. Bumpy was a member of the ICC, the Union Club and Vittori-Rocci Post in Beverly and PRLACC in Danvers and the American Legion in Hamilton. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Debra and Patrick McCarran of Beverly, two grandsons, Sean and Steven McCarran of Beverly, his siblings David Eaton of Burlington and Marilyn Frans of TX and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by siblings, Barbara Thompson and Patricia Alexander and his former wife Julia (Fernandes) Eaton. A Funeral Service will be held on Sat. Oct. 16, 2010 at 10:30AM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. Vst. Hrs will be held prior to the service 9:30-10:15AM. For those who wish to donate to a charity, donations may be made in Mr. Eaton’s name to the Beverly Firemen’s Relief Assoc., 15 Hale St., Beverly, MA, 01915.

  1. Sorry for your loss. I was on this sight as my cousins son recently died and noticed that your father was a Corpsman during WWII. I would like to express my thanks for his service. As an Active Duty Marine, I know what the “Docs” do for us in peace time and have read of their heroics during combat operations.

  2. My deepest sympathy for you loss “Bumby” was a character all is own. Our first meeting was when he catered a wedding I was in for Pam white at the union club some 27 years ago. More recent was his visits with us at Rosehip farm or my visits at the ICC card room. My thoughts are with you! Cindy Modugno
