Hans Harro Hassel

CAMBRIDGE - Hans Harro Hassel, 78, passed away on August 18, 2022. His final days were filled with love, surrounded by his children and partner of nearly thirty years, Jen Cui. Born in Hamburg, Germany he was son to the late Otto and Gertrud (Scholvin) Hassel. Harro came to the United States in 1978, settling in Manchester-by-the-Sea, where he raised his family. Harro enjoyed hiking, field hockey, skiing, the beach, classical music, attending the symphony, and traveling. He was an avid reader, writer, and loved catching up with friends and family; whether it be on the phone or in person. Above all else, he will be remembered as a loving partner, father, and grandfather, who exhibited immense pride for his family. In addition to his partner, Jen, Harro is survived by: daughter Melanie Healey, and her husband Terence, of Essex; son Christian Hassel, and his wife Risa, of Hamilton; daughter Stephanie Hassel, and her fiancé, J.J. Waitt, of Beverly; daughter JoJo Hassel, and her fiancé Mike Fogarty, of Washington, D.C.; mother of his four children, Janice Lloyd, of Gloucester; grandchildren, Elsa, Cecelia, Jameson, John O. and Bryce; sister, Dieta Ruttmann of Germany; his loving nieces, nephew, and extended family.
