August 26, 1927 ~ August 23, 2024

Born in: Brighton, Massachusetts
Resided in: Danvers, Massachusetts

Helen Margaret Eldredge King passed peacefully at her home on August 23, 2024 with her family by her side. She was born at St Elizabeth’s Hospital in Brighton, MA on August 26, 1927, to the late Orville and Catherine (Fahey) Eldredge.

A long-time Danvers resident, Helen spent her childhood in Center Ossipee, NH and later resided in Maine where she graduated from South Portland High School. Helen met Clyde King roller-skating, and they married on May 7, 1946. She was a devoted mother and wife, raising their five children while supporting Clyde’s 20-year career in the US Navy. Helen later pursued a business career, starting at a small typewriter store in Salem and retiring as an executive assistant at Mitre Corporation in Bedford.

Helen’s tenacity was an inspiration to her friends and family. Her zest for life taught all her children the importance of a good laugh. Helen was a devout Catholic who loved books, dancing, bowling, and the occasional glass of wine. She was a whiz with numbers and could have been a broker on Wall Street. She also appreciated the art of Andrew Wyeth, the music of Patsy Cline, and a secret stash of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. Throughout her nearly 97 years, Helen cared for her family deeply, and she LOVED Christmas.

Helen was predeceased by her husband Clyde King, her brother John Eldredge, her sister Patricia Murchie, her grandson Russell King, and her best friend and cousin Sally Parker.

Helen leaves behind a tenderness in the hearts of those who loved her. She is survived by her children Stephen, Dennis and Nancy King, Patti Lynch, Bill and Caron King, Teri and Patrice Tollenaere, along with her grandchildren and their families, Robert, Kaleigh, Rebecca, Zachary, Ryan, Colin, Elizabeth, Benjamin, Aidan, 8 great-grandchildren, and her pug Buster.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. We did not know Helen personally, but if she was as kind and considerate as Bill she must have been a wonderful person! Rest in peace Helen❤️

  2. To the King family I’m so sorry for your huge loss I have so many fond memories of Helen at our house always laughing with Mom stay strong

  3. Was deeply saddened to learn of the loss of your beloved mother- I will always remember my Aunt Helen and her laughter and fun spirit, especially when she was spending time with my mother, Sally up in Maine and Ireland, Saint Croix and New York- they were like 12 year-old giggling girls when they got together -although she was my aunt, I used to call her Mrs. King- when I was a little kid I remember she pulled me aside put me on her lap and said Danny -you can call me Aunt Helen instead of Mrs. King -I’m not your school teacher. also remember fun times with the King family and uncle Clyde on our family camping trips to Ossipee Lake in New Hampshire. We had so many fun times my condolences to the King family , my favorite cousins.

  4. Stephen, Dennis, Bill, Patti and Teri:
Today would have been your mom’s 97th birthday; I’m sure she’s laughing, dancing, and happy in Heaven with your dad! I don’t believe I have ever seen your mom without that beautiful smile on her face! That’s the way I’ll always remember her in my mind. She’s finally at peace…
    Rest well Helen….

  5. So many emotions. So many fun times on Collins and on the Ressy. She was such a loyal, kind and devoted friend and parent. She was my mom’s go to girl for so many years. She fostered a sisterhood between he and my mom’s children. The love between our family feels as fresh today as it did 60 some odd years ago. Be @ peace Helen. Say hi to Clyde and my mom. Love ❤️ you and your family Helen. RIP love 💛💜

  6. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Wishing the entire family comfort and peace during this difficult time.
    Love,
    Pierre, Debbie, Chandler and Theresa

  7. Helen King, a mother grandmother, great grandmother and friend to so many.I cherish the conversations we had and the kindness and interest she showed me.One time in particular when I had to move and wanted Danvers but ended in Beverly .Over a glass of wine, sitting outside on the deck, she pointed out I was just one long street away .Not such a big deal, life was good again. I’ll always remember that.❤️

  8. I’ll always remember you, Helen.
How kind and loving you were towards me and so many others.
    A beautiful soul, indeed.
