Helen Towne

Helen M. (Szikney) Towne, 83, a longtime resident of Peabody and ever-supportive mother, died peacefully with her daughter by her side on June 15, 2012, following complications from spinal stenosis. She was the loving wife of the late Roy V. Towne, through 52 years of marriage. Helen and her nine siblings were born to the late Anthony and Anna Szikney, and raised in Salem. Helen’s birth year coincided with the start of the Great Depression. She was working in electronics when she met the love of her life – Roy Towne. Helen spent the 1960s living in Maine, supporting her husband’s career, and upon their return to MA, Helen worked for many years at the J.B. Thomas and Lahey hospitals. She enjoyed bingo, football, homemaking and cruises. She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Towne Huggins and her husband Scott of West Chester, PA, a brother, Stephen Stickney of Boxford, and a sister, Sophie Bussone of Beverly, as well as many nieces and nephews. Her Funeral Service will be Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at 11AM in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. Burial will follow in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, West Peabody. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are prior to the service from 9:30-10:45AM. Donations in Helen’s memory may be made to the Kaplan Family Hospice House, 78 Liberty St., Danvers, MA 01923.

So sorry to hear about your mom. She was quite a lady. Her dry sense of humor always made my day when she was around. I’ll bet there is a reunion in heaven with the 4 of them. Thank you for the beautiful flowers. Take care of yourself, you will be very lost for a while. Love Nonie and Larry
Helen was a delightful woman, a wonderful friend and neighbor. She will be missed. My sympathies to Joyce, Scott, family and friends. Mike
