DANVERS- Helen (Wilcox) Stearns, 94, passed away in Kaplan Family Hospice House on November 11, 2022. She was the wife of the late Warren V. Stearns. Born in Stockbridge, Vermont on April 16, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Josie (Mills) Wilcox. She was raised and educated in Bethel, Vermont and graduated from Whitcomb High School in 1946. Helen attended Castleton State College and received a 2-year certificate. She had a long career as a secretary. Helen had worked at Dover High School, Kittery Adult Education and the Community Congregational Church in Greenland NH. She enjoyed reading, needlepoint, ballroom dancing and watching professional ice skating. She had been active at the Middle Street Baptist Church when she lived in Portsmouth, NH. Helen was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother and loved spending time with her family. She is survived by her children, Delphine (Del) Skillins of Danvers and Kermit Smith and his wife, Lydia Thompson of Virginia, her step-children, Scott Stearns and his husband George Voyzey of Harpswell, ME, Sandra Stearns of Lisbon, ME and Catherine Stearns of Lewiston, ME, her grandchildren, Michael Skillins and his wife, Laurel of Port Orchard, WA, Stephen Skillins and his wife, Pamela of Danvers, MA, Henry Smith, Ian Smith, Grant Smith, Santana Smith, Hannah Smith, Jetta Smith all of Christiansburg, VA, Jessica Fleet and her husband, Bill Stoller of Bisbee Junction, AZ, and Josie Smith of Lynchburg, VA, and great grandchildren, Colin, Isabella, Stone, Zeke, Nia, Hayden, Liam and Serenity. She was predeceased by her sister Harriet McCuen. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 PM on Friday, November 18, followed by her funeral service at 6 PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Helen’s name to Kaplan Family Hospice House, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA, 01923 or Alzheimer’s Assoc. 309 Waverley Oaks Rd, Waltham, MA, 02452.
