James E. Sheridan
March 3, 1942 ~ January 27, 2024
James E. Sheridan, a long-time resident of Melrose, more recently of Danvers, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2024, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. He was 81 years old. Born in Melrose on March 3, 1942, he was the cherished son of the late Joseph and Marie Sheridan and stepson of the late George Copp.
Jim graduated from Melrose High School in 1960 and further honed his skills and knowledge at Malden Business School, graduating in 1962. His professional journey was marked by a distinguished 37-year career with the United States Postal Service at the McCormick Building in Boston, where his dedication and hard work left a lasting impact.
Beyond his professional life, Jim was an active and involved member of his community. He was a past member of the Elks in Melrose, and a member of ECHO in Danvers and the cribbage club at Ferncroft. In his younger days, Jim was a pool shark at the Melrose YMCA.
Travel and exploration were among Jim's greatest joys. He was an avid traveler, having visited 13 countries and numerous U.S. national parks. His adventures often included river cruises in Europe, where he shared memorable experiences with friends and his sister-in-law, Shirley O'Brien. He loved watching endless hours of golf and football and a jigsaw puzzle was always at hand.
Jim's legacy is carried on by his beloved wife of 55 years, Kathleen M. O'Brien Sheridan, his loving daughter Melinda Sheridan, and his devoted siblings Barbara Morrison, Marie Copp, Charles Sheridan, Joseph Sheridan, and Sandra Crowley. He was pre-deceased by his siblings Joan Ross, Richard Sheridan, and Robert Sheridan.
His Funeral Service will be Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at noon in C.R. Lyons & Sons Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. Relatives and friends are invited. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 11AM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim’s memory may be made to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923.
