James Geiger

James Lee Geiger, 85, of Danvers, passed away suddenly on September 29, 2010 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House surrounded by his loving family. Jim was the beloved husband of Joan (Dobbs) Geiger, both long time Danvers residents, whom he shared 60 years of marriage. Born in Elyria, Ohio on July 22, 1925, Jim was the son of the late Lee and Antoinette (Walsh) Geiger. Jim is a graduate of Bowling Green University where he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. Later, in his career, he was employed by International Paper Company and Weyerhauser. A decorated veteran of World War II, Jim served his country with the 503rd Airborne Regiment and was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service. Jim was a long time member of the Lions Club International, Danvers Chapter, and in 1992 was bestowed with their highest honor, the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award. He was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Annunciation Church in Danvers and an officer of the Couples Club. Favorite passions of his was skiing, boating and music. Jim belonged to the Danvers Surf Patrol, Power Squadron, and the 929’ers Banjo Band for many years. Besides his loving wife, Joan, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Janet Geiger of Boxford and James and Juliana Geiger of Everett, two daughters and a son-in-law, Susan Arrington of Boxford and Carol and Eric Schapero of Danvers, a brother and sister-in-law Thomas and Marion Geiger of Ohio, nine grandchildren, Lynne, Alyssa, Brian, Michael, Brittany, Christie, Stephanie, Lia and Stephen and two great grandchildren, Haile and Vianna, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Edward Arrington, Jr. and a sister Mary Ann Mahoney and her husband James. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9AM on Sat., Oct. 2, 2010 in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Danvers. Visiting hours are Fri. 4-8PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. In lieu of flowers memorial donation may be made to the Danvers Lions Club, P.O. Box 81, Danvers, MA 01923.
I am sorry to hear of the passing of Jim. He will be missed by myself and my fellow members of the Peabody Lions Club. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends in their time of grief. May the love of friends and family carry them through their grief and may their memories bring them comfort.
