April 2, 1933 ~ November 14, 2014
James L. “Jim” Donlon, 81, peacefully passed away, surrounded by his family, on November 14, 2014. He was the long-time companion of Shirley Lefavour of Beverly.
Born in Beverly on April 2, 1933, he was the son of the late Martin and Lillian (McNeil) Donlon. Jim was raised and educated in Beverly. He served our country during the Korean War with the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged. Jim had been employed as a plumber with Union Local 12 and worked for Griffin and Merrow for many years. He was a member of several clubs and organizations, including, Knights of Columbus Veragua Council #76 in Salem, American Legion Post 180 in Danvers and the Elks Lodge in Peabody. He was a scoutmaster of Troup 6 in Beverly for many years. Jim was an avid Giants Football fan and enjoyed golfing and billiards. His greatest joy was his grandchildren and was known as “Papa” to many.
He is survived by three daughters and two-sons-in-law, Cynthia L. Donlon of Danvers, Peggy Ann and Michael Giles of Beverly and Patricia F. and Frank Cobuzzi of Danvers, five siblings, Patricia Donlon, Joan Sholomith, Margaret Estabrook and Richard Donlon, all of Beverly and William Donlon of FL, five grandchildren, James Ryan Donlon, Benjamin Joseph and Mary Catherine Giles and Michael Anthony and Christina Maria Cobuzzi and several nieces, nephews and Godchildren. His family will receive friends and family at 8:30AM in Saint Richard Parish, prior to the Funeral Mass at 9AM on Saturday, November 22, 2014 in Saint Richard Parish, 90 Forest St., Danvers. At the request of the family there are no visiting hours and the burial is private. Jim enjoyed contributing to numerous charities; therefore, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to the charity of your choice.
Mooch-a-Meal fondly remembers Sunday breakfasts at Friendly’s. I never have the honor of putting the pepper in his tomato juice…. 🙂
My condolences to the Donlon family. May it help you to know that God is a refuge and strength a help that is readily to be found during distressses (Psalms 46:1). Yes, he is willing and able to give you the help to continue on. May God provide peace and comfort for you to endure, the days ahead.
