Surrounded by loving family and friends, Margaret "Jane" (King) Curtis passed away peacefully at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, on Sunday, June 5, 2011. Born Dec. 11, 1930, in Portsmouth, N.H., to parents John and Margaret King, Mrs. Curtis was a current resident of Peabody and previously resided in Portland, Maine, Danvers and Dennis Port. Mrs. Curtis received her bachelor's degree in English from St. Joseph's College in Portland, Maine. She went on to work as a secretary at Portland City Hall. Her life's work was raising her children and caring for aging parents. For the last 20 years, she participated in the management of the family business, "Curtis Pine Grove" in Dennis Port. Mrs. Curtis is survived by her devoted husband, Robert Curtis, with whom she shared 54 wonderful years of marriage; her eight adoring children, John Curtis, Fred and Anne Curtis, Robert Curtis, Jr. and Thomas Jones, Linda and Tom Gikas, Greg Curtis, Dan and Nancy Curtis, Susan and Alan Tilton, Lisa and Jeff Soderholm; her 14 grandchildren, Courtney, Erica, Jordan, Allie, Jack, Cristen and Ron Flynn, Nick, Danny, Bobby, Eric, Jared, Joshua, Lauren, and Kellie; and three great-grandchildren, Lily, Reghan, and Thomas. She was recently predeceased by her loving sister, Mary Coughlin. Mrs. Curtis lived a life of service to her church, community, and numerous charities. Mrs. Curtis was a devout Christian in both faith and deed. She was a parishioner of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in West Harwich. Mrs. Curtis enjoyed gardening, sailing, antiquing, her daily soap opera, and her beloved bridge club. She will be missed for her sense of humor, her wisdom, and her relentless support of family and friends. ARRANGEMENTS: Friends and family will be received on Sunday, June 12 in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square from 4 to 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 13 at 11 a.m. in Saint Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Cancer Society at www.americancancersociety.com.
