Janet L. Pittsley-Smith
March 27, 1938 ~ November 17, 2014
Janet L. Pittsley-Smith, 76, of Danvers, passed away, unexpectedly but peacefully, in her sleep on Monday Nov. 17, 2014. She was pre-deceased by her husband Harris, and her parents Roy and Alethea (Squires) Pittsley Borden.
Born in New Bedford, Janet moved to Gloucester, as a result of her father’s commission in the coast Guard as the keeper of the Anisquam Lighthouse. Janet spent many of her younger years living in lighthouses and their significance stayed with her as she became an avid collector of lighthouse memorabilia later in life.
Janet was educated as an obstetrics nurse at Addison Gilbert Hospital, and worked there for many years until she eventually moved to Danvers. She then continued her career at the Hunt Hospital. She enjoyed her many years as a nurse and treasured all of her friends from that period of her life.
Janet was a devoted Christian, and was a very active member of the Church of the Nazarene in Saugus, MA. Throughout her years of service to the church, she was involved in various missionary initiatives, her most treasured experience being a trip to Romania. She also participated in youth groups, and was the organist and pianist in the Saugus church for many years. Janet very much loved her church and all of her friends there.
Janet is survived by many close friends and loved ones.
Visiting hours will be Saturday, Nov 22, 2014 from 1-3 PM in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 06, 2014 at the Saugus-Cliftondale Church of the Nazarene, 60 Essex St,. Saugus. Relatives and friends are invited.
Lit a candle in memory of Janet L. Pittsley-Smith
Janet you will sorely be missed I remember all the times you would come into church with your big black wrap on and go up to the piano and grace us with the Lords music. May you find a beautiful piano to play in heaven. The Hairston Family.
Janet, we shard many great memories serving on the New England District Nazarene Missions International (NMI) Council together. You were a wonderful daughter, devoted wife, and treasured friend.
Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints (Psalm 116:15). I know you are in Heaven playing the piano and singing with the Heavenly Hosts.
