Jean C. Brown

Jean Cooke Brown, age 87, passed away on Oct. 25. Jean was born on Staten Island Oct. 13 1924. She graduated from Curtis High School on Staten Island and the University of North Carolina (Greensboro). Jean worked for the Doremus advertising agency on lower Manhattan before she married Douglas Brown Jr. Jean and Doug were married 56 years and lived in Norwalk, CT for 47 years before moving to Peabody MA when her sight began to fail. Jean was a loving mother who devoted her life to create a home for her family. She supported Doug after he retired by ferrying him back and forth along the Appalachian Trail. Jean loved her dear friends from Shore and Country Club, where she enjoyed playing tennis and bridge. She was a proud member of the Mayflower Society. Jean is survived by her twin sister Ruth Thomassen of Greenspring, VA, her son Douglas Brown and wife Nina of Fredericksburg, VA, her son Donald Brown and his wife Nancy of Beverly, MA and her son Duncan Brown and his wife Suzanne of Encinitas CA. Jean had six grandsons, Marshall and Ryan of Fredericksburg VA, Jason Brown, Benjamin Brown, William Brown and Daniel Brown of Beverly MA and one granddaughter, Reilly Brown of Encinitas CA. She had many grandnephews and one grandniece. A memorial service will be held on Saturday Oct. 29th at 2PM in the Chapel at Brooksby Village, 300 Brooksby Village Dr., Peabody.
