PEABODY- Jeannette T. "Jan" (Pelletier) Mercier, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Mass General Hospital on Tuesday, May 8, 2018. She was born in Salem on May 14, 1933 to Reginald and Yvonne (Poussard) Pelletier. She attended Saint Ann’s Elementary School and Saint Joseph’s High School in Salem. As a young girl, she was an avid skier and enjoyed the outdoors. Jan and her brother shared a special relationship similar to that of best friends – constantly recounting stories of their mischievous days. She was a stay-at-home mother and homemaker who loved cooking for her family. Jan expressed endearment for those she loved by tagging them with a unique nickname. It was her way of expressing her adoration, peppered with a sense of humor. In later years, all her working days were spent in the medical profession. Jan worked at Union Hospital for more than 35 years. She spent the majority of those years as an emergency and lab technician making an impact on people’s lives. After taking a CPR class, Jan put her skills to use and saved the lives of several people. Her quick thinking and competency saved the lives of four people, one of whom was her youngest daughter. One person even showed exponential gratitude by sending a Christmas card, every year thereafter. Jan will be remembered and greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Jan is survived by her four children; Guy Mercier and his wife, Brandy of Amherst, NH, Mike Mercier and his wife, Dawn of Hopkinton, MA, Lea Simard and her husband, John of Peabody, MA, and Patricia McGrath and her husband, Kevin of Harwich, MA; seven grandchildren, Bradley, Jaclyn, Hannah, Matthew, Lauren, Ethan and Nicole; one great grandchild, Adham; three sisters, Gertrude Provost of Essex, formerly of Wenham, MA, Pauline Lamarre of Port Orange, FL, and Mary Edgar of Charles Town, WV. She was preceded in death by her brother, Reginald Pelletier. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9AM on Saturday, May 12, 2018 in Saint Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Visitation will be held from 4-7PM on Friday, May 11, 2018 at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. Burial is private. Jan was very passionate about her work in the medical field and the well-being of children, in lieu of flowers, her family asks that donations be made in Jan’s name to the Make a Wish Foundation, 4742 N. 24th St Suite 400, Phoenix, AZ 85016.
