Joan C. Hooper of Hamilton died on September 6, 2014 from renal failure at Lahey Hospital, Burlington, MA. Joan, daughter of Clifford G. Pingree and Gladys (Greenough, Pingree) Davis and later of Bradford Davis was born December 20, 1937. She was raised in Salem, MA and educated in Salem’s school system until she completed her education at Salem Commercial School. Joan was most recently employed by GTE/Sylvania, Loring Avenue for more than 23 years in the Production Department. Joan’s efforts were recognized by GTE when she became a member of the Transition Team dispatched to St. Marys, PA to teach employees how to operate the equipment shipped from Salem to Pennsylvania. Joan was a loyal friend and confidant to anyone in need. She found good in each person she met and her door was always open for a cup of coffee or an extended stay. She turned no one away. Prior to her disability, Joan was an avid bowler who won many trophies and prizes. She enjoyed socializing with family and friends and found great pleasure in discovering and sampling new restaurants and eateries. She loved sports particularly college football and basketball. She is survived by her husband, William. Joan also leaves three daughters: Cindy McIntire (Steve) and Donna Ramos (Ernie) both of Peabody; Heather McIntire (Bernadette) of Beverly and three sons: John McIntire (Marie) of Salem; James Hooper (Misty) and Courtland Hooper (Stacy) of Georgia. Ten grandchildren including Courtney Zaiter, who preceded Joan, called her Nana. Two great grandchildren knew her as Grammie. Brother Everett Davis (Phyllis) and sisters Betty Ann Whitmore (Harvey) and Barbara White live out of town as does Scott Hooper (Amy). Barbara Hooper is in Hamilton with Joan and William. Joan will also be remembered by five nephews, three cousins and her aunt Calista (Folsom) Greenough of Danvers. She was preceded in death by uncle Mager Greenough and brother-in-law Harvey Whitmore. Her Funeral Service will be celebrated at 10AM on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 in All Saints Episcopal Church of the North Shore, 46 Cherry St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Lake St., Peabody. Visiting hours are Tuesday from 4-8PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. Joan requested memorials to be directed to All Saints Episcopal Church of the North Shore, P.O. Box 393, Danvers, MA 01923 or North East Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Ave., Salem, MA 01970.
