Joan H. (Strout) Walter, 71, died peacefully surrounded by her family on April 14, 2011 at Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. She was the wife of John P. Walter, with whom she shared 47years of marriage. Born on Nov. 29, 1939 in Lewiston, Maine, she was the daughter of the late Lucy (Houston) Edwards. Joan was employed as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant at Twin Oaks Nursing Home for many years. She also worked at A.C. Moore in Danvers until retirement. She was a yard sale enthusiast and an avid reader and crafter. She enjoyed spending the day at the beach with friends. Joan’s greatest joy was the pride she took in her grandchildren, with whom she adored. Besides her husband John, she is survived by two daughters Donna Lawnsby of Salem and Barbara Meehan and her husband Scott of Danvers, a brother Frank Edwards and his wife Mary of Peabody, three grandchildren, Shane Walter, Haley Lawnsby and Kendall Meehan, several nieces and nephews and her cat Wendy and grand-dogs Fenway and Pongo. She was predeceased by two brothers, Eddie and Milton Edwards. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:30AM on Tues. April 19, 2011 at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Topsfield. Vst. Hrs. are on Mon. from 4-7PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Joan’s name to Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA, 01923.
My dear friends…I am so sorry for your loss. I will always remember the fun summers spent at the beach…her never-ending crochet projects…and of course, her delicious meatballs!!! Love, Rosie
