Joan M. (Crowley) Benson, 86, of Danvers, died Monday, September 28, 2026 in Danvers surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Paul F. Benson, with whom she shared nearly 66 years of marriage.

Born in Medford on January 19, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Doody) Crowley. She was raised and educated in Medford and Hamilton and graduated from Hamilton High School. A Danvers resident since 1965, Joan was a parishioner of Saint Mary of the Annunciation Church and loved the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.

For many years, Joan opened her home to many children, finding great joy in caring for them and forming long lasting relationships with their families. She also worked at Hotwatt in Danvers for several years. She enjoyed playing softball and volleyball, ice skating, singing, and walking around the neighborhood with her beloved Paul. Vacations at Old Silver Beach on Cape Cod brought her many happy memories. Above all, Joan loved spending time with her family, especially her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she leaves four children, Cheryl Benson of Danvers, Paula Andruskiewicz and her husband Joseph “Mike” of Lynn, Kevin Benson and his wife Kimberly of Danvers, and Donna Rougier and her husband George of Beverly; eight grandchildren, Michael Andruskiewicz, Stefani Andruskiewicz and Ethan, Marcus Benson and his wife Jacqueline, Kyle Benson, Kelsey Mihovan and her husband Erik, Melissa Andruskiewicz and Seth, Caitlyn Rougier, and Kourtney Benson; and eight great-grandchildren, Lacey, Makenna, Blake, William, Dylan, Henry, Maxwell, Kassian and many beloved grand dogs. She also leaves two beloved sisters, Mary Rita Christopherson, Elizabeth Correia and her husband George; sister-in-law Mary White and many beloved nieces and nephews and longtime friends, including Dina, Charlene, Tom, Annette, and Bonnie. She was predeceased by her brothers-in-law, Lee “Chris” Christopherson and Lewis White.

Joan’s family is grateful for the love, care, and support she and her family received throughout her illness from the staff at Hathorne Hill and the team at Care Dimensions.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. To Paul Benson and family, please know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers in the loss of Joan.

I would always see Joan and Paul at the 4:00 p.m. Mass at St. Mary’s each Saturday afternoon and when they were unable to attend due to health issues, I would visit them and bring them Holy Communion once a week. I would like to share one special memory I have of Joan, among many others, is her infectious smile and how her eyes would sparkle each time she spoke about her husband and family and how proud of all of them she was! I will miss those Saturday afternoon visits.

I pray now that she is at Peace and that all your special memories of her will bring you much comfort as you look back on them!

    Linda Perrino
