June 30, 1925 ~ August 8, 2022
DANVERS- John A. Dembowski, Sr., 97, peacefully passed away in his home on August 8, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Jean (Cox) Dembowski with whom he shared 70 years of marriage.
John was an incredible man. He was and always we will be, thought of as a selfless and endlessly caring and hard-working man. Born in Chelsea on June 30, 1925, he was the son of the late Richard and Veronica (Wielock) Dembowski. John was raised and educated in Danvers and graduated from Holten High School in 1944. He served our country with the United States Army during WWII and was a POW. He was honorably discharged in 1945. Upon returning home and healing from such events he courted and married his forever sweetheart, Jean. From boyhood on John worked at his family farm and is thought of fondly picking blueberries and helping family members on 114. John ended his working years helping his two sons on various job sites across the Northshore. He loved working in his garden and traveling across country with his wife. He was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed years of helping his neighbors and watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow and thrive.
In addition to his wife, Jean, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Nancy Dembowski of Danvers and Richard and Gayle Dembowski of Chatham, NH, four grandchildren, Alison Salerno and her husband Jeffrey, Lauren Dembowski, Jason Dembowski and Adam Dembowski, four great grandchildren, Sierra, Dakota, Harrison and Jordan and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his five siblings by Charles, William, Chet and Tessie Dembowski and Helen Craig.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10AM on Friday, August 12, 2022, in Saint Richard Church, 90 Forest St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. Visitation will be held from 4-7PM on Thursday, August 11, 2022, at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in John’s name to the Danvers People to People Food Pantry, PO Box 2076, Danvers, MA, 01923.
