John Arthur ”Jack” Rowell, a resident of Danvers, passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 25, 2011 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers from complications of lung cancer surgery. He was 63. Jack was born on January 22, 1948 in Salem, Massachusetts to Alice Rita (Harrison) and John Arthur Rowell, Jr—the first of the 7 Rowell brothers. He attended Danvers schools graduating from Danvers High School in 1966. He worked as a chemical formulator for ITW Devcon on Endicott Street in Danvers until his retirement in 1998 due to a medical disability. Jack was best known for his extremely dry sense of humor. Jack is survived by his devoted partner Joanne Prescott of Danvers, his son John and his wife Shannon of Haverhill and daughter Deborah of Beaverdam, Virginia; 4 grandchildren, Kristen ,Jessica, Stephanie, and Christopher; 3 great-grandchildren, Gary, Matthew, Scotty; and his brothers Wiliam and his wife Marty of Beavercreek, Ohio, David and his wife Jan of Albany, New York, Richard and his wife Robinof Danvers, and Stephen of Pawtucket, Rhode Island; and 6 nieces and 3 nephews. Jack was predeceased by his grandparents, parents and brothers Paul and James. Jack’s family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 from 6-8 PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. Burial services will be private. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations may be made in Jack’s name to Hospice of the North Shore and Greater Boston, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923.
