John E. Marks

John E. Marks, 89, died Saturday, October 24, 2009 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House. He was the husband of the late Ruth (Miller) Marks, with whom he shared over sixty years of marriage. Born in Lynn on Dec. 9, 1919, he was the son of the late John and Elizabeth (Harris) Marks. He was raised and educated in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn English High School, Class of 1938. Mr. Marks went on to serve in the US Navy, and was decorated for his service in WWII and Korea. For 41 years, Mr. Marks was employed at General Electric as an analyst. A longtime Saugus resident, he was active as a youth coach for little league and the St. Margaret’s CYO, where he was a parishioner for many years and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Saugus Council #1829. Since coming to Danvers 21 years ago, Mr. Marks was a communicant of St. Richard Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Thomas E. Power Council #1505. A devoted father and grandfather, he was a longtime member at the Gannon Golf Club in Lynn. He is survived by two children and their spouses, Dennis and Helene Marks of Danvers and Kathleen and William O’Neill of Peabody, five grandchildren, Brian Marks and his wife Ksenia of Mason, NH, Patrick Marks of Danvers, Kristin Marks of Oldsmar, FL, Jennifer Williams and her husband Todd of Westford, and Christopher O’Neill of New York City, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters Lillian Murphy, Mary Salo, Helen Nolan, Cecilia Wladkowski, and James and Robert Marks. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009 at 9AM in Saint Richard Church, 90 Forest St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Hobart St., Danvers. Visiting hours are Wednesday from 4-8PM in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. Donations in Mr. Marks’ name may be made to the Kaplan Family Hospice House, c/o Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923.

So sorry for the loss of your father & grandfather. He was a wonderful man and was fortunate to live a long life, surrounded by those who loved him in the end. May you find peace in fond memories.
