John F. Purington, 70, passed away on November 20, 2013 in his home. He was the companion and best friend of Sandra Foresta of Swampscott. Born in Beverly on March 31, 1943, he was the son of the late John P. and Alma M. (Glenn) Purington. John was raised and educated in Manchester-by-the-Sea and graduated from Story High School. John had been employed as a supervisor at GTE Sylvania and was a member of the Quarter Century Club having worked there for over 30 years. He also was employed at Whirlaway Golf Center in Methuen for the last 20 years. Besides his dear friend Sandra, he is survived by his only child, daughter Wendy Purington Despres, his son-in-law Lee, his grandson Colby and his granddaughter Camdyn all of Chichester, NH, his only sibling, sister Donna Rogers and her husband Bill of Saugus, his nephew Dana Rogers and his niece Kerri Harris, his former wife Gail A. Purington of Concord, NH, his three grand nieces and nephews and extended family. A Funeral Mass to honor John F. Purington will be celebrated at 9AM on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Hobart St., Danvers. Visiting hours are Monday from 4-8PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. In lieu of flowers, expression of sympathy may be made in John’s name to the American Red Cross, 139 Main St., Cambridge, MA, 02142.
