DANVERS—John G. Nickerson, 71, died peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, August 27, 2014. He was the husband of Mary Susan (Santapaula) Nickerson, with whom he shared forty-five years of marriage. Born in Hyannis on June 28, 1943, he was the son of the late Neil and Florence (Gwinn) Nickerson. He was raised and educated in Provincetown and was a graduate of Provincetown High School. He went on to further his education with an associate’s degree from Cape Cod Community College, a bachelor’s degree in history from Salem State College, and a Juris Doctor from New England School of Law. A Danvers resident since 1979, John was employed as a claims supervisor with Travelers Insurance. He enjoyed jazz and historical novels. An avid Boston sports fan, he especially enjoyed the Celtics. He volunteered his time for several years as a coach with the Danvers American Little League and the Babe Ruth League. In addition to his wife, he leaves his daughter, Megan Nickerson of North Andover, his son, Michael Nickerson and his wife, Katie Symmes, and their children, Jack, Nora, Annalee, and Charlie. He was predeceased by his son, Matt Nickerson. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 1, 2014 at 9AM in Saint Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Sunday from 3-6PM in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Danvers People-to-People Food Pantry, PO Box 2076, Danvers, MA 01923.
