John J. Keohane, Sr.

John J. Keohane, Sr., 87, died Saturday, September 25, 2010 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. He was the loving husband of the late Freda (George) Keohane. Born in Easthampton on June 12, 1923, he was the son of the late Michael and Viva (Weston) Keohane. He was raised and educated in Easthampton and was a graduate of Easthampton High School. He then served honorably in the United States Navy during WWII. Mr. Keohane owned and operated the former Hyland Diner on Route 1 in Danvers for many years. A longtime Danvers resident, he was a member of the AHA and the Danvers River Committee. He enjoyed boating and was a private pilot. He is survived by a son, John J. Keohane, Jr., and his wife Janet of Danvers, two daughters, Kathy Keohane of Dracut and Sandra Alstrand of Chicago, Ill., three grandsons, Jason and Christopher Keohane of Danvers and Kenny Mitchell of Florida, a granddaughter, Kelly Mitchell of Florida, two brothers, Joseph Keohane of Danvers and Charles Keohane of Easthampton, several nieces and nephews and a loving extended family. A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at 2PM in the Holten Cemetery, Holten Street, Danvers, Relatives and friends are invited. As requested, there are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Keohane's memory may be made to Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923.
