John J. McPhee
September 7, 1929 ~ January 30, 2023
John McPhee was born in Somerville on September 7, 1929. He was the son of the late John and Ellen (McCarthy) McPhee. The first born of six siblings, John was a caring "big brother" to his five sisters, Helene, Muriel, Vonnie, Edith and Irene. The McPhee family lived in Somerville for many years. John attended Saint Theresa's (now Saint Catherines) School on Summer Street. After graduating from Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School, he entered the Navy and served honorably on the Naval Carrier Leity during the Korean War. Upon his return from the Navy, he finally got to meet his youngest sister Irene who had been born while he was away serving his country.
John most recently lived in Peabody.
An avid Boston Sports fan, he was especially dedicated to the Red Sox and Patriots. He also enjoyed classic and more contemporary films. More than anything, he was a good and generous son and brother.
He leaves two sisters, Edith E. Dauphinee of Seattle, WA and Irene Katherine Melanson of Peabody, as well as numerous loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings Helene M. Colbert, Muriel A. Frederick, and Eleanor V. Fret.
