Joseph Karolides King of the River

Joseph Karolides, 80, passed away on November 16, 2011 in his home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Barbara (Young) Karolides with whom he shared 54 years of marriage. Born in Peabody on November 15, 1931, he was the son of Muriel (Herrick) Karolides of Danvers and the late John Karolides. Joe graduated in 1950 from Holten High School in Danvers. He went on to serve his country with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. Joe was employed with the former New England Telephone Co. for 32 years. Joe was an avid fisherman and was known as “The King of the River”. He was also a member of the Plum Island Surf Casters. He is survived by his children, William and Cindy Karolides of Maine, Debbie Karolides of Danvers, Tracy and Bill McNichol of Danvers and Robert and Kim Karolides of Medway, his grandchildren Joe, Timothy and Thomas Karolides of Maine and Jared and Kristin McNichol of Danvers, his siblings, Jimmy Karolides of FL, Sue Gehling of Danvers and Priscilla Herrick of Danvers and many niecs and nephews. Joe’s family will receive friends and family on Sunday from 3-7PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St. Danvers. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Joe’s name to Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers MA, 01923 or Plum Island Surf Casters, PO Box 1585, Newburyport MA, 01950.

Deb, We’re so sorry to hear of the passing of your dad. I know he will be missed by many. Take comfort in knowing that he is with your mom and grandma again and will always be watching over you and your family. Remember the good times you shared.
