Lena C. (Waskiewicz) Lavoie, 91, died Saturday, November 28, 2009 following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Joseph Alphonse Lavoie, with whom she shared fifty-five years of marriage. Born in Easthampton on January 7, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Mary (Tanski) Waskiewicz. She was raised and educated in Wilkes-Barre, PA and had been an area resident for over sixty-five years, mostly making her home in Middleton. For over twenty years, Mrs. Lavoie was employed by Hotwatt in Danvers Square. Past president of the Ladies Auxilliary of the Salem VFW, she was known for knitting beautiful sweaters and enjoyed square-dancing. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Gil Rines of Middleton and Maryann and Homer Jones of Louisiana, 6 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Melony Jones, and her brothers and sisters. Her funeral service will be Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at 11AM in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Tuesday from 5-8PM in the funeral home. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
