Lorraine J. Spooner

lorraine spooner
Lorraine M. (Jones) Spooner, 95, of East Providence, RI died on December 20, 2022. Lorri was also a long-time summer resident of Jamestown, RI and lived in Warwick and Pawtucket for many years. She attended the Rhode Island School of Design and was a member of the Providence Art Club. Lorri was an artist at heart from her beautiful oils, pastels and watercolor paintings to her sense of fashion. She loved the ocean, fishing, golfing and was an excellent cook. Her notoriously great Christmas cookies that she began making as a young woman with her friend of 60 years, Ellie Goodbie of East Greenwich, RI became an annual tradition as were her hand-painted Christmas cards. Lorri is survived by her dear brother, Ronald Jones of Dublin, CA and is predeceased by her sister, Valerie Nivens of Erie, PA, her mother and father, Mildred (Abercrombie) and Leslie Jones of Brockton, MA as well as her husband, Harry Spooner, with whom she taught her nephews how to fish and love the Jamestown shore. She was also predeceased by her companion of many years, Wes Yando. Wes and Lorri traveled to many exciting places throughout the world later in their lives. Lorri is survived by many “kids” both young and old - both blood relatives and chosen family. As her niece put it so perfectly in a note to Lorri this month, “we were all your children”. Services for Lorri will be on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the Central Congregational Church, 296 Angell Street, Providence, RI. Donations may be made in Lorri’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
