Lorraine Suzanne Bender, 51, of Danvers, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, April 21, 2014. Beloved mother of Dylan Fitch and Hayden Fitch of Danvers, MA. Loving daughter of Robert M. Bender, Jr., of Saco, Maine and Suzanne Scolamiero of Jackson, New Hampshire and Melbourne, Florida. Cherished sister of Robert M. Bender, III of Weymouth, Massachusetts and Michael J. Bender of Dedham, Massachusetts. Adoring aunt to her nieces and nephews, Diana Bender Morgan, Alexander Bender, Sarah Bender, James Bender and Madison Bender. Lori was a loving mother who instilled a love of learning and an appreciation of many cultures to her sons. Lori loved history, and together they visited many historical sites in the United States and Canada. She was a dedicated medical professional who spent 30 years caring for elderly patients as an administrator in nursing homes in Scituate, Braintree, Canton, Peabody, Salem and Danvers. Lori traveled extensively and in high school, she canoed the Arctic wilderness, and also spent her senior year as a Rotary Exchange student in Lillehammer, Norway. After earning her R.N., Lori volunteered as a nurse at medical missions in the Caribbean as well as in Gambia, Africa while on her 18 month solo trip around the world in 1982. Lori passes on her love of adventure and appreciation for the wider world to her children. Lori will be forever missed by her loving family and all who had the pleasure of knowing and loving her. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Monday, April 28, 2014 at 9:00AM in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant Street, Danvers, Massachusetts. Burial will follow in Wadsworth Cemetery, Danvers. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Lorraine may be made to the YMCA Camp Menogyn, 3425 Ihduhapi Road, Loretto, MN 55357, please indicate “In memory of Lori Bender”.

We never had the chance to meet Lorraine but heard of her through Michael and Stephanie and understand what a tragic loss her passing is for all those who knew and loved her.     I am so sorry to learn of Lori. I remember as a child hearing about her adventures as an Exchange Student and her other travels to throughout the world. I am sure these travels gave her the appreciation for life and the desire to get into the medical field.
