Lydia Arroyo
December 14, 1944 ~ July 31, 2023
DANVERS- Lydia (Ortiz) Arroyo, 78, passed away on July 31, 2023 in her home surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Heriberto Arroyo.
Lydia was born in Guanica, Puerto Rico on December 14, 1944. She was the daughter of the late Manuel and Josefina (Torres) Ortiz. At the age of thirteen Lydia was tasked with the care of her younger siblings following her mother’s sudden death. In 1968 she moved to the Bronx, New York, where she worked in a shoe factory, and maintained various jobs to help provide for her family, while she also helped raise a niece and nephew who remained very close and dear to her heart. She settled in the Boston area in 1984 and for the past 17 years she resided in Danvers to stay close to her grandchildren.
She was the ultimate homemaker and made a career of it. Caring for many families and elderly along the years. She loved unconditionally and had the most infectious smile. Her love for family and friends was straight from the heart. She loved to cook and crochet and had the greenest thumb. Lydia was a devoted catholic and had been a communicant at Saint Mary of the Annunciation Church in Danvers.
She is survived by her two children Berto Arroyo of Maine and Evie Arroyo-Barrows and her husband, Bobby Barrows of Danvers, her three grandchildren, Eric, Ariana and Gyovanna “GiGi” and a great grandson, Jaidem, five siblings, Gloria Burgos, Manuel Ortiz, Fannie Ortiz, Margarita Morales, Edwin Vasquez and Millie Ortiz and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Aurora, Flor, Rafaela and Haydee Ortiz.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10AM on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 in Saint Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Danvers. Visitation will be held from 4-7PM on Monday, August 7, 2023 at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. Online directions and condolences are available at www.

Mientras lloro tu muerte, tambiรฉn celebro tu vida. Prometo mantenerte viva en mis recuerdos y corazรณn. Descansa en paz querida hermana.

It was an absolute honor and privilege to care for Lydia over the years. Her hugs at the end of our appointments were the best therapy she gave back to me. I pray Evie, Berto, Ariana, GiGi, Bobby, and the rest of her family are comforted knowing Lydia is at peace in heaven. May God bless you all.
With prayers and gratitude,
Dr. G-B
Tia Lydia was the best cook in the familyโฆone of her love languages was food..and her potato salad was the BEST..!! She was a true fighter who loved life and her family. We will carry on without her, but it will not be the same. Will miss her calls and her laugh. Rest in Paradise, my Love.
