Madeline Jane (Slattery) Geraghty, 82, of Salem, passed away on February 15, 2012 in her home. She was the wife of the late Timothy D. Geraghty. Born in Salem on November 2, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Philip D. and Mary A. (O’Rourke) Slattery. Madeline was a life-long resident of Salem and attended Salem schools, graduating from Salem High School in 1945. Madeline was a talented seamstress with many of her family adorning her clothes including their Halloween costumes. Madeline also made award winning Victorian dolls and their intricate clothing. She is survived by two daughters, Debbie Benvie and her husband Chuck of Salem and Nancy Layton of Manchester, NH, three grandchildren, Nicole and Archita Benvie and Kayla Layton, a sister Marie C. Murphy of Danvers, four nieces and a nephew, Susan Dembowski, Diane Brinkley, Brian Murphy and Janis Conway all of Danvers and Cheryl Tremblay of Florida. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9AM on Saturday, February 18, 2012 in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. Vst. Hrs are Friday from 6-8PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. She was always great at telling us the weather report up on Hampton Beach where our sewing cirlce seemed to get bigger with people every year. Madeline was an inspiration and someone I was happy to call friend. She was so very proud of her family and delighted in the things she was able to sew for them. Her dolls were always very well dressed. She was a special lady and will always have a place in my heart.
