DANVERS - Manouel “Mr. Manny” Hatziioannou, 69, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2023, in his home surrounded by his family. He was the devoted husband of Fotini (Zannis) Hatziioannou with whom he shared 36 years of marriage. Born in Mytilini, Samos, Greece on November 7, 1953, he was the son of the late Vasilios and Maria Hatziioannou. At the age of 14, Manny immigrated to Montreal, Canada. He had started working in the fur factories there at the age of 17; by the age of 22 he started his own fur business, Glama Furs in 1974. He received the Master Furrier award from the Canadian Fur Council. He was a talented designer and received his couture design certificate from Paris. Manny moved his successful, family owned and operated business to Peabody in 1989. When his sons were younger, he coached their soccer games with Danvers Youth Soccer. He took great pride in all of their achievements. Manny was always helping, ready to share words of advice or lend a hand. He had been the president of the Samos of New England Assoc. for 20 years, a charity that assisted those in need in Boston and his home island of Samos, Greece. He was the very definition of generous, always looking out for family and friends whenever they needed him most. Manny enjoyed going back to his home in Greece during the summer, fishing and gardening. He was also an avid antique collector, always on the lookout for, “a significant find.” In addition to his wife, Fotini, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Vasilios and Kaye and Constantine and Samantha, his beloved grandchildren, Rhodes and Augustinos all of Danvers, his sister Angeliki Hatziioannou of Greece and many extended family and friends in Canada and Greece. Guestbook

  1. I was so sorry to receive the call from Constantine about Manny’s passing. Although I’ve only know your family through the salon, being Greek, I felt a kinship to you all. Conversations about family, Constantine getting married and of course Greek cooking with Fotini always were there; it was like catching up with friends. Manny was always very good to me and we had a few laughs trying on coats. You all are in my thoughts and prayers and even though he may not be with us here on earth, his smile and soul will always be with us in our hearts.

    Yvonne Poulos Renwick

  5. My deepest condolences to the Hatziioannou Family at this most difficult time. Mr. Manny you were truly one of a kind! Your talent for creating extraordinarily beautiful furs left all of us who owned one smiling. But it was Mr Manny the person, who made the world a better place by being in it. Your kindness and flair each time I visited your salon, always made me grateful for knowing you. Rest in peace, Mr. Manny, knowing your magnificent furs will keep us wrapped in warm memories of having known you.
Our deepest sympathies, Toni and Danielle DesRoches

  6. I met Manny in 1987 when he came to pick up my furs for storage from my rental on Atlantic Terrace in Lynn. That began a 35 year friendship as we aged. My husband and I were so sorry to hear of Manny passing. I thought we’d get old together with him dressing me like a Queen at Glama. He was a man of fine taste and a talented creative designer. He loved his family, his life and his customers. He truly danced the walk of life. Thank you so much for the video, seeing glimpses of his life were a comfort and I’m so happy I can see them over and over. I can’t bear to say goodbye, so, I’ll say goodbye for now dear one. May you rest in peace. My prayers are with your beautiful family as they navigate this huge void. Fo, big hug. Manny, thank you for the joy you brought so many. When I think of you, I smile.

  8. We are shocked and saddened to hear of Mr. Manny’s passing. He was always full of life and smiles when we visited the shop. A credit to his profession and a talented fur designer. A loving family man who adored his wife, children and grandchildren. Scott and I will miss you, Mr. Manny! Dance with the angels.

  9. Ξάδερφε ελαφρύ το χώμα. Μέχρι να σε ξαναδώ το “significant find” μπορεί να το κάνουμε με τον Βασίλη και με τον Κώστα. Και θα πιούμε ένα και για σένα.

  10. To Fotini & family, I’m so sorry to hear about Manny. He was such a gentleman and caring man. Always a welcoming feeling of warmth from him and family doing business. He will be missed! My deepest condolences and prayers to you Fotini and your family.
