Maria A.A. Correia, 79, died Saturday, January 5, 2013 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Manuel F. Correia, with whom she shared fifty-three years of marriage. Born in Funchal, Madeira Island, Portugal on January 22, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Jose Maria and Ernestina (Almeida) Correia. She was raised and educated on Madeira Island and came to the United States at age 16, settling in Peabody. She resided in Danvers and Middleton for most of her life. For many years, she and her husband were co-owners and operators of the former Coronet Leather & Finishing Company. She was a longtime member of the Middleton Congregational Church, where she enjoyed participating in the Women’s Ministry. She was dearly loved by her family and will be missed. She is survived by three daughters, Ann Nunery and her husband Ed of South Freeport, ME, Debi and Robert Gnoza of Danvers, and Josie Correia of Newburyport, her grandchildren, Melissa and Bill Ogden, Kirsten Nunery, Manny Gnoza and Julie Monagle, Jared and Ashley Nunery, Justin and Allie Martini, Megan and Justin Bowdich, Brittany Butterworth and Scott Schauer, and Dylan Martini, 4 great-grandchildren, Cooper and Laney Ogden, Cole Bowdich, and Luca Gnoza, three sisters, Bevinda Correia, Rose Jorge, and Josephine Couceiro, and a very special friend, Kaleigh White. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Dulio Correia. Her Funeral Service will be held Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013 at 11AM in the Middleton Congregational Church, Maple St., Middleton. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery, Middleton. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Wednesday from 4-8PM in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923.
