Marjorie J. (Mello) Schevis

marjorie j. (mello) schevis
Marjorie Jean Schevis, born on the Burley Street Farm in Danvers, MA on February 21, 1927 to Lena and Emanuel Mello, was called home to be with the Lord and her beloved husband Dan in the early morning hours of November 29, 2013. She passed on with grace, peace and dignity. A woman of remarkable strength and determination, Marge lived a life devoted to her husband and family. We credit her vast energy and vibrant spirit to her “strong and stubborn” Portuguese heritage which she proudly claimed. A graduate of Danvers Holten High School in 1945, Marge met the love of her life in the 8th grade and wed in 1948. She and her husband Dan resided in Danvers until 1983 at which time they retired to Wolfeboro, NH. Throughout her life no one was a stranger to Marge. She embraced every one and openly shared her friendship, compassion and grace. Marge found pure joy in giving and was renowned for her delicious blueberry muffins and cookies, baked with love and shared with local businesses and neighbors in exchange for a simple favor or service rendered. A child at heart, she embraced, with spirited fun, her grandchildren and great grandchildren, the delights of her life. Marge’s warm and friendly nature endeared her to anyone who met her. In later years she found comfort in nature’s beauty through the peaceful solitude of a silent snowfall, the calling of the loons, and moonlight dancing across the water at her lakeside home. And now Marge’s work on earth is done. It is with our deepest love and gratitude for a life well lived that we lovingly send her on her way with blessings of blissful eternal peace…until we meet again. Marge is predeceased by her beloved husband Daniel P. Schevis, sons Daniel P. Schevis, Jr. and Kevin P. Schevis, sisters Hazel Maguire and Eleanor Marshall, and brothers Roger Mello and John Mello. Marge is survived by her cherished sister Shirley Mello Bell, daughter Brenda Schevis Crane, son David P. Schevis and wife Michelle, grandchildren Taylor Heath and husband Wayne, Jasper Crane, Sara Vlahos and husband Jay, Brett Flint, and six great-grandchildren, Jasper Crane Jr., Ezra, Izrael and Sunny Heath, Maximus and Abigail Vlahos. She is also survived by her many adoring nieces and nephews. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9AM on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Salem. Visiting hours are Tuesday from 4-8PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. In lieu of flowers, donations in Marge’s memory may be made to Central New Hampshire VNA & Hospice, 780 N Main Street, Laconia, NH 03246.

  5. Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamonds glint on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle Autumn rain. When you awaken in the mornings hush, I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet white doves in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry. I did not Die. A Hopi Prayer

  6. Brenda, David and family members, She was a great lady to grow up around, I truly loved her and her 7 layer brownies. She played a different role in all of our lives, a mother, a sister, grandmother, aunt and a friend. No matter how she touched each of our lives, we all loved her unconditionally. Ask anyone and they’ll tell you the same, she brought us joy, laughter, she showed us strength and most of all she gave us her love so freely. she may have left this physically earth but no matter what, no one can ever replace what she shared so loving with all of us. My deepest Sympathy, Donna DeLuca Marston

  9. So sorry to hear about Aunt Margie. She was always so thoughtful and generous with us and our children. Our oldest son is named for his Papa, Dan Schevis, who was named for Aunt Margie’s beloved Dan. The name continues. I know that Aunt Margie and Dan will watch over the Schevis kids down her in Florida. 10. Aunt Margie, one of the “Greatest Generation” who lived such a full and wonderful life, will be missed by me. I think the Mello sisters were legendary, and their love for their family, for Danvers, and for this nation knew no bounds. We will not see their like again cousins, and we are all poorer for it. My love and heart goes out to Aunt Shirley who is now last, and of course to my mother, Hazel Ruth Mello, I remember the living and those past in my prayers. I think of them all every day of my life. Charlie Maguire, Bev M. Hughes & Elsie and James Jamin-Maguire
