Martha (Lewis) Emerson, 91, died Sunday evening, November 29, 2015. Born in Springfield, Ohio on Dec. 25, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Miriam (Copenhaver) Lewis. She was raised and educated in Ohio and following her marriage to Galo Putnam Emerson, moved to Danvers where she resided in in the Gen. Israel Putnam House. Together, they established Putnam Pantry Candies where she worked for many years. She was a member of the New England Retail Confectioners Assoc. and the National Confectionary Assoc. Mrs. Emerson was later employed by Sun Life of Canada in Wellesley and made her home in Auburndale for many years. She enjoyed bowling, traveling, and was an avid reader. She leaves three sons, David Emerson and his wife Mary of Braintree, John Emerson and his wife Jeanne of Concord, NC, and Robert Emerson and his wife Margarita of Niantic, CT, her step-son, Galo P. “Wink” Emerson, Jr. and his wife Jo-Ann of Danvers, her grandchildren, Jennifer Emerson, David DiCrescenzo, Daniel Emerson, Georgina Emerson, Amanda Costello, Keith Emerson, Kim Morris, Dr. Wendy Emerson Martens, Eric Emerson, and Nathan Emerson, and several great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Louise Searls. Visiting hours are Friday, December 4, 2015 from 9-11AM in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. Immediately following, there will be a Graveside Service at the Daniel & Jesse Putnam Burial Ground, Maple St., Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. In lieu of flowers, donations in Martha’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assoc., 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
