Martin Joseph Coyne, 105, died peacefully on Saturday morning, January 9, 2010 following a brief illness. Born in Tully Roe, Co. Galway, Ireland on October 28, 1904, he was the son of the late Thomas and Anne (Holleran) Coyne. He was raised and educated in Ireland and served in the Irish Army before emigrating to the United States in 1928. Mr. Coyne served as a chef in the Hotel Edison in Lynn for several years before a career with H.P. Hood and Son of Lynn where he was employed for over twenty-five years. A West Peabody resident for forty years, Mr. Coyne had previously lived in Lynn. He was a faithful communicant of Saint Adelaide Church in West Peabody and had been a member of the Knights of Columbus in Lynn for many years. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and enjoyed fishing. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law: Joanne and Rudy Desilets of West Peabody and Eileen and Robert Bakoian of Middleton; six grandchildren: Heather Lagonakis and her husband Angelo of Salem, Sister Bernadette of the Immaculate Conception, O.C.D. (Danielle Desilets) of Danvers Carmel, Cheryl George and her husband William of Danvers, Lauren Volonakis and her husband Michael of New York, Erin Nazarian and her husband Noah of Stoneham, and Julie Bakoian-Crofts and her husband Paul of Middleton; seven great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Nondas, Sam, Nathan, Max, Ruby, and Ani; a dear family friend, Maryann Ford; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters and brothers, Mary Queena, Julia Hyland, Anne, Bridgit, John, and Michael Coyne. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at 11AM in the Chapel of the Discalced Carmelite Monastery, 15 Mt. Carmel Rd., Danvers. Burial will follow in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, West Peabody. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are in the Chapel of the Discalced Monastery on Wednesday from 4-7PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Coyne’s name may be made to the Discalced Carmelite Nuns, 15 Mt. Carmel Rd., Danvers, MA 01923.
